7 days agoI've loved Liane Moriarty in the past so I'd been toying with the idea of reading this one; when I saw it on Audiofile magazine's best-of-the-year list I decided to try the audio and enjoyed it so much. It's got a big premise: on a delayed flight from Hobart to Sydney, an older lady walks the aisle and tells every single passenger their age and cause of death.

Dec 15, 2024For me, 2024 has mostly been a pretty great year personally and professionally. Of course, it's had highs and lows like anything, but my overall sentiment towards '24 is positive and I can't say that about every year of my life. ... But for now, here's what I've been reading in the last few weeks of the year. Spoiler alert: ...

Dec 30, 2024Rather than doing a regular blog recording my monthly reads I thought I'd do an end of year round-up of some of my favourite books this year. So here's what I've been reading in 2024! But first, my 2024 reading "unwrapped" I've read 44 books in 2024 (with three still on the go!) which is one more than last year.

Dec 14, 2023Welcome to Quick Lit, where we share short and sweet reviews of what we've been reading lately on the 15th of the month. This month I read two newer reads just published in October of this year (Amanda Peters's The Berry Pickers and Melissa Broder's Death Valley), three published in 2022 (Catherine Newman's We All Want Impossible Things, Hernan Diaz's Trust, and Xochitl Gonzales's ...

Dec 26, 2024The Intelligent Investor, 75th Anniversary Edition . Authors: Benjamin Graham and Jason Zweig Year of Publication: 2024 Length: 583 pages. Last month, I wrote Stepping into the River based on my impressions of reading the latest edition of The Intelligent Investor. That article was not so much a book review as a reflection on why it is important to read certain books more than once.

Oct 5, 2024Persian Fire. Author: Tom Holland Year of Publication: 2005 Length: 401 pages. I read Herodotus in June as part of my Great Books reading project. Although the Landmark Edition provides a great deal of context helpful to the modern reader, I have often found it interesting to pair historical works with contemporary books. I read Tom Holland's Dominion in 2023, so I was already aware of his ...

Feb 15, 2024And finally, always a reading goal but really this year, is reading my own book shelf, especially unread Book of the Month selections. I've paused my membership until I've made greater process on that goal. ... 4 thoughts on " What I've Been Reading Lately & Reading Goals (January 2024) " Marilyn Gibson on February 28, 2024 at 7:10 am ...

Dec 16, 2024Throughout this whole past year I've been reading John Berger's astonishing collection Portraits in chunks at a time; each essay is about (or inspired by) a particular artist, and the book is organized chronologically so that the first essay is about the Chauvet cave painters and the last essay is on Randa Mdah. I've been flipping to ...

Dec 26, 2024Publisher: Crossway Year of Publication: 2008 Length: 1,512 pages (Proverbs to Revelation plus essays). I read the first half of the ESV Study Bible during the third quarter and completed the book just a few days ago. As I wrote last quarter, this Study Bible does an excellent job of explaining both the old and new testaments in a way that is understandable to the modern reader.
